Here's s snippet from Lady's website that begins to describe some of her artistic and anthropological work, in which she describes the sticker campaign: '(Millard Boutique) was created by Lädy Millard in 2002 and developed in a basement studio in Soho New York City. The sticker campaign can be explained as an experiment in race and human relations. The goal of the project is to question the use of a face as an icon and to transcribe a new ideal in art.
The Millard head sticker attempts to stimulate curiosity and bring people to question both the sticker and the intent of the work itself. The sticker has no meaning but exists only to cause people to react, to contemplate and search for meaning in the sticker. The various reactions and interpretations of those who view it reflect their personalities and the nature of their sensibilities. This is an on going project.' Lady Millard's work was featured in Jay-Z's 'On to the Next One' video and looks so striking. I love seeing the different mediums overlayering (is that a word?) one artist's work. Wonderful artsist, social commentator and zine creator Lady Millard (NY) has made this: www.issuu.com/ladymillard/docs/redsun www.millardboutique.com Pen and Paper Issue 5!
Pen and Paper is a fantastic new art mag that is so artis-friendly. It is run by Kathy Leung and I love her guts. Below is my little interview.

www.yenmag.net/artery/featured-illustrator/kate-mccarthy just goes to show that if you submit something obsessivley maybe someone you admire will post your stuff up for you! I LOVE PIKALAND!!Let's call this a really exciting thing that has just happened. I'm so excited to have been featured by Amy on Pikaland: www.pikaland.com/2010/09/01/kate-mccarthy
'Ever looked at child-inspired art that’s well, grown up? Take a look at Kate McCarthy's work and you’ll see what I mean. Inspired by early childhood memory of pure shape, color and intent, Kate’s managed to dissect the colorful (and sometimes fleeting) world of play into a 2D interpretation mixed media work with a spot of humor thrown in. I could detect a hint of innocence in her works, and also a sense of wonder as she wields her brush – I love the playfulness that shines through!' Nuggetty Talent PackageOver the next vague passage of time, this nuggetty package of talent will be pursuing collaborative shows, the first being held in September at 19 Karen Contemporary Artspace on the Gold Coast, Australia. The girls have been mashed, collected and curated by Beck Wheeler. I don't want to speak for Beck before things are finalised and polished, so stay posted!
The Little Girl with the Loud Voice
I'm illustrating a kids' book written by Terry McCarthy called 'The Little Girl with the Loud voice'. It's about a little girl who has no idea how to turn down her voice and when she speaks books fly about the room, people's glasses fly off and dogs cover their ears. One day, the Lighthouse Keeper comes to her with an urgent and important job: the lighthouse is broken and the boats are in danger in the storm! Can the Little Girl use her extraordinary voice to warn them they are dangerously close to the rocks? She saves the day and is feted by the townsfolk. In a strange twist, her voice returns to normal...

It's titled 'Everyone is...' so I'm doing just that: 1. making a baboushka dolls... 2. splicing humans with deer/magpies/dogs... 3. shooting rainbows from orafices. I think trends are an amazing part of human-ness, especially in art that reflects the subconscious of society. Here's what was written after that... you are outrageous in such a cute way Kate!! rainbows from orafices is lol funny one...only you can do it and get away with it using the "Kate" way!! from Jodie... haha Jodie! Thank you. Now I'm just waiting to hear from all the artists/non artists I've offended! it is actually a compliment to the whole thing. I love the way feelings are triggered so easily in a recognised element of a decade or season. You know- puffy paint on shirts makes you yearn for the eighties or stuff like that- which shows that trends are actually an amazing memory-glue, but we put trends and fashion down too easily. So I reckon these obvious trends Aus artists are using should be celebrated. xo AnimationMore vague timeframes of a vague idea: my good friends and I are making an animation with my bits. Stefan Popescu is a film maker, director, lecturer and artist and runs the Sydney Underground Film Festival with his equally talented producer, writer, gorgeous person, artist and partner Katherine Berger. Together they have produced two feature length independent films- Rosebery 7470 (2005) and Nude Study (2010). They are super busy at the moment so once again, just sit still and be patient and stay posted!
Shop for All My Talented FriendsI can't get enough of my talented friends and I'm so proud of all of them. I'd love to get them all together somehow. So, vaguely of course, I'm thinking of opening a shop-sort-of-thing. Have a look below. Oh stay posted!
